PG Stephen Leishman to Speak at Patriot’s Day Luncheon

President General Stephen A. Leishman, a native of Washington, D.C., and a graduate of the University of Maryland where he earned his U.S. Air Force commission, is the keynote speaker for our Patriot’s Day luncheon at the Concord Inn April 15th at 1pm. While on active duty, he earned his navigator wings and trained in electronic warfare, flying over 5,000 hours in nine different airplanes over 21 years. (During Vietnam, he flew 125 combat reconnaissance missions.) For his service, President Leishman was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, six Air Medals, the Meritorious Service Medal and two Air Force Commendation Medals.

Leishman retired from the Air Force to accept employment with The Boeing Company, where he managed the B-1B Flight Simulator Logistics Support, and supported the space shuttle program. On the cold morning of January 28, 1986, he was at the Cape Canaveral and witnessed the explosion of the Challenger.

Compatriot Leishman has served the National Society as our Secretary General, Treasurer General, Registrar General, Historian General, Vice President General of the Mid-Atlantic District, Chairman of the History Committee, and Chairman of the GWEF Fund Raising Committee. He is a past treasurer and president of the Delaware Society and past secretary and president of the Major Peter Jaquett Chapter. His awards include the Minuteman Award, the War Service (Vietnam), Patriot Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (National, District and State levels), Silver Good Citizenship Medal, and the Liberty Medal with 2 oak leaf clusters. Steve continues to pursue an interest of his Scottish heritage as “Leishman”.

Steve enjoys traveling, walking through old cemeteries, doing genealogy research, cruising on the Chesapeake Bay in his Mainship trawler, and spending time with his two grandchildren who reside in Metairie, Louisiana. He is active in the local Episcopal Church and the Diocese of Delaware, and supports The American Legion and Boys State program. He is active in Masonic Orders, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War; and is a Life Member of The American Legion, the U.S. Power Squadron, and the Air Force Association.

He and his wife, Janet Dailly Leishman, live in Wilmington, Delaware. She is a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Chaplain of her chapter, and is Senior Society President of Delaware chapter of the Children of the American Revolution. Janet is the Director of St. David’s Episcopal Day School in Wilmington.
